‘We are ginger’: Prince Harry and Ed Sheeran check in with a humourous message on World Mental Health Day

By Zach Harper

Prince Harry and Ed Sheeran have teamed up for a video to remind fans to seek help about mental health issues – and poked fun at their red hair in the process.

The clip posted to the SussexRoyal Instagram account on Oct. 10 begins with Ed sitting in a barber’s chair getting his beard trimmed as he introduces the video. As we saw in a preview clip on Oct. 9, the spot sees Ed ring the doorbell of Ivy Cottage, Princess Eugenie’s home at Kensington Palace. Harry answers the door.

“Hi, mate,” he says, shaking his shaggy-haired doppelganger’s hand.

“It’s like looking in the mirror,” the prince then hilariously jokes, letting viewers get a glimpse of the pair’s outfits. They’re wearing nearly the exact same thing with the exception of Ed’s chunky glasses.

“Do you mind if I bring the cameras in?” Ed asks the prince.

“Of course. Yeah. Come on in, guys,” Harry replies.

Once inside and seated at a table, Ed launches right into the issue – but things take a comical turn.

“I’ve been trying to write a song about this to get it out to more people,” he says.

“This, for me, is an issue people just don’t talk about enough,” Harry chimes in, before becoming confused at Ed’s next comment.

“People just don’t understand what it’s like for people like us – with the jokes and the snide comments,” Ed says. “I just feel like it’s time we stood up and said, ‘We are ginger, and we are going to fight.’”

“Um, okay. This is slightly awkward. There may have been a miscommunication – this is about World Mental Health Day?”

“Oh, right. Yeah. Yeah. I definitely knew that,” Ed says before the camera shows him deleting the title “GINGERS UNITE” from a document on his computer. We’re able to just catch a glimpse of a bullet point below it that reads, “HRH Prince Harry and the king of ging Ed Sheeran get together to change the perception of people with Moroccan sunset hair.”

Harry then turns, looks into the camera and says, “Reach out, make sure your friends, strangers, look out for anybody that might be suffering in silence. We’re all in this together.”

Of course, mental health and mental fitness are very important to Harry, who has courageously spoken about his own on numerous occasions and is working on a special series with Oprah Winfrey that will tackle the subject.

Thanks for the funny reminder, guys!
