The top five sweetest moments from last year’s Trooping the Colour

By Meaghan Wray

Every year, the Royal Family takes their spots on the Buckingham Palace balcony for the Queen’s second (and official) birthday event, Trooping the Colour. Royal watchers are always eager to see them all together, and the 2018 event certainly didn’t disappoint when it came to sweet (and hilarious!) moments.

Last year was particularly momentous, as it marked the Duchess of Sussex’s first time participating in the affair. She was joined by her husband Prince Harry, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Queen, the Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Charles, two of the Cambridge kids and more members of the monarchy.

In anticipation of the 2019 event on Saturday (June 8), take a look back at last year’s festivities...

The Queen’s pride and joy

When Her Majesty spotted her grandson, Prince William, on top a horse in full uniform, she couldn't help but smile with pride. The sweet moment she saw him was beautifully captured, as the dad of three looked down at the monarch, who was dressed beautifully in blue.

Showing her the ropes

Meghan made her Trooping the Colour debut less than a month after saying “I do” to Prince Harry. Dazzling in a pink off-the-shoulder Carolina Herrera two-piece set, the now-mom looked calm as she joined the rest of her new family. But it’s natural to be a bit nervous – after all, it is one of the biggest events of the year! In a sweet moment captured on camera, Harry can be seen pointing at something, likely explaining how the event was to go.

Royal antics

In easily the most viral moment of the 2018 ceremonies, Prince George’s cousin, Savannah Phillips, was spotted shushing the young prince and covering his mouth as the planes flew over their heads. Dad Prince William didn’t look too happy, but we’re sure the family had a good laugh after the fact. Too funny!

A mother’s love

Princess Charlotte seemed to be thoroughly enjoying watching the airplanes, and the little princess took a small tumble, which clearly startled her. Luckily, mom Duchess Kate wasn't too far behind, and quickly collected her daughter into her arms to comfort her.

Family bonding

There’s no doubt Duchess Meghan and Prince Charles have a very close bond – after all, he did partly walk her down the aisle! Their loving relationship was on full display on the Buckingham Palace balcony, as she shared a hearty laugh once the festivities were almost over. It must’ve helped her nerves a bit, having her father-in-law nearby.
