Get the look: Berry lips ruled the 2015 Oscars red carpet

By: Sarah Kelsey

Despite the barely there makeup that ruled the runways for Spring 2015, the Fall shows showed a decidedly more impactful face - including a beautiful berry lip, which we called for Oscars! - and stars got a head jump on the trend at the 87th Academy Awards. Several of the night’s biggest and best-dressed stars plumped up their lips in berry stains and bee-stung hues.

Julianne Moore, who won a Best Actress statue for her role in Still Alice, wore the lip as an accessory to her Karl Lagerfeld-designed Chanel dress, while Naomi Watts showcased the look on stage while accepting the Best Picture award with her Birdman castmates. Behati Prinsloo, Lupita Nyong’o Chrissy Teigen and Lorelei Linklater also had their hearts set on berry.

One reason we could be seeing a surge in the popularity of the colour is because of its universality. Varying in shades from dark red-brown to almost purple, berry lips complement just about every skin tone. The richness of the hue is guaranteed to make eyes pop.

Burgundy products, much like 2015’s Pantone colour of the year Marsala, also offer non-lipstick wearers a chance to dip their toes into statement-making makeup without feeling uncomfortable. The hue is dramatic without being overpowering.

If you’re like us and are interested in trying the trend, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite berry-based lip products from around the web. From stains to plumping liners, there’s a product on offer for everyone.
