Alessia Cara to perform at the 2016 Juno Awards

Teen singing sensation Alessia Cara is the first confirmed performer for the the 2016 Juno Awards. Canada’s roaming musical bash will set up shop at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary on April 3.

The Brampton, Ont., native has owned the charts this year with her smash hit “Here” and recently released her first album, Know-It-All,which debuted at number nine on Billboard’s Top 200. The 19-year-old singer dropped by the Hello! Canada offices in early November to chat about her long-awaited album, performing with Taylor Swift and what it means to be included alongside Justin Bieber and Drake in the Canadian wave of musical acts dominating the charts right now. "I'm so glad to be part of it," says Alessia. "I feel like we're in this group of underdogs because for a while you would never really look to Canada for the musical talent. We're just turning it around and showing that we are talented and we're representing where we're from."

With Alessia’s star shining brighter by the day, it’s expected that she will follow in the footsteps of last year’s big winner, Kiesza, and score some Juno nominations herself. The 26-year-old "Hideaway" singer scored three trophies at the 2015 ceremony, taking home Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Dance Recording of the Year and Video of the Year.
