Must-Try Beauty: 6 multi-tasking skin serums

By Ally Dean

Skin-care regimens are like fitness routines: we’re always looking for one that will work faster and better with longer-lasting results. The latest multi-tasking serums may be the key to instant skin-care gratification.

Traditional serums target specific concerns, such as hyper-pigmentation, redness or dehydration, but revolutionary new formulations promise to harness the hydrating and free radical-fighting properties of vitamins, botanical extracts and moisturizing agents for multi-faceted results.

“Advances in encapsulation techniques, like micro-fluidics, allow us to create serums that combine multiple active ingredients at higher concentrations,” Armelle Souraud, manager of scientific communications for Chanel, tells Hello! “The new techniques stabilize ingredients in a delivery system that’s able to penetrate easier and more deeply into the skin.” These lightweight textures help fortify the skin’s moisture barrier and increase cellular functions, all of which mean younger, healthier-looking skin.

Diane Kruger, the face of the new Chanel Hydra Beauty Micro Sérum campaign, credits the super serum with giving her skin radiance. “I wasn’t blessed with great skin. I used to have rosacea and I still struggle with under-eye circles,” Diane says. “The new serum is one of my favourite products. It’s so fresh and light on the skin.” Enriched with hydrating ingredients (hyaluronic acid and camellia alba PFA) and antioxidants (blue ginger PFA) the lightweight formula plumps, smooths and protects skin.

Celebrity makeup artist Kate Lee uses the serums on clients like Anne Hathaway and Keira Knightley for events such as the Academy Awards. “If you’re tired, stressed or having an off-day, your skin can look dull and flat,” Kate tells Hello! “When your complexion isn’t perfect, your makeup won’t look good. Serums are like a drink of water and instantly improve your skin.” And it doesn’t get faster than instant!
