There’s a new royal family in town, and they aren’t British! Amazon Prime has just dropped the first trailer for its highly anticipated show The Romanoffs, created by Mad Men’s Matthew Weiner. An ensemble of Hollywood veterans are bringing to life Russia’s storied royal family in a series that’s sure to tide over those waiting anxiously for season three of The Crown to debut in 2019.

With an official release date of Oct. 12 – Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s wedding day! – the nine-part series sets its characters across the globe in different time periods. An anthology, it zooms in on eight different people who believe they are part of the bloodline of the Russian royal family. Starring big-name stars like Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks and John Slattery, Diane Lane, Corey Stoll, Kathryn Hahn, Amanda Peet and Batman: The Dark Night’s Aaron Eckhart, the show is set to be chockful of thrilling twists.

As history goes, the members of the House of Romanov were all executed in 1918 during the Russian Civil war, and in the aftermath many claimed to be surviving members of the royal family. While all of these claims were debunked when the bodies were recovered and identified with DNA testing, there are still people who claim, to this day, to be descended from the Romanov family.
