Canadian Screen Awards 2015: All the nominees

With an amazing 13 nods apiece, Orphan Black and Xavier Dolan’s Mommy lead the pack at the Canadian Screen Awards, a glamorous, two-hour event that honours the best in Canadian film, television and digital media.

Canada’s answer to both the Emmys and the Oscars, the CSAs debuted in 2013 and consolidated the formerly separate Genie Awards and Gemini Awards.

This year’s nominees were announced in Toronto on Jan. 13, with industry heavyweights like Robert Pattinson, Ryan Reynolds, John Cusack, Julianne Moore and Tatiana Maslany earning nods.

In the film category, Xavier Dolan’s Mommy and David Cronenberg’s Maps to the Stars, which both debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival to great critical acclaim, will vie for Best Picture.

Blake Lively’s handsome husband and Most Beautiful Canadian, Ryan Reynolds, is up for Best Actor for his role in The Captive, along with Bruce Greenwood (Elephant Song), Michael Murphy (Fall), Evan Bird (Maps To The Stars) and Antoine Olivier Pilon (Mommy).

In the TV categories, last year’s big winners, Orphan Black for Best Drama and Call Me Fitz for Best Comedy, have scooped up nominations for the second year in a row.

City's Package Deal received three nominations - Best Performance by an Actor for Jay Malone, Best Performance by an Actress for Julia Voth and Best Direction in a Comedy Program - while Seed scooped up five nods for Best Comedy Series, Best Performance by an Actor, (Adam Korson), Best Performance by an Actress (Carrie-Lynn Neales), Best Photography, and Best Writing.

We’re in for a memorable evening if the 2015 gala is anything like last year’s event. Aside from Lifetime Achievement Award winner David Cronenberg locking lips with Viggo Mortensen onstage - and Zoie Palmer publicly coming out as a gay woman by thanking her life partner as she accepted her Fan's Choice award - there was also plenty of action behind the scenes at the HELLO! Canada portrait studio, where celebrity photographer George Pimentel snapped playful portraits of the night's biggest stars.
