Meghan Markle dons American designer at Prince Louis’ christening

Meghan Markle made another mark in the royal fashion world on Monday (July 9) while attending baby Prince Louis’ christening ceremony at St. James's Palace. The former actress got back to her American roots for the milestone occasion, her first royal baptism, donning a chic olive-green Ralph Lauren dress and matching fascinator by her go-to milliner, Stephen Jones .

Not straying too far from her preferred style, the Duchess of Sussex kept things simple, tailored and formfitting in the natural-hued ensemble. Her dress by the renowned designer featured one of Meghan’s favourite style of necklines, showing off a small peak of shoulder. The 36-year-old showed off her small waist with a narrow belt – another style she has donned almost every time she’s stepped out. Meghan appeared to be wearing a pair of her go-to Manolo Blahnik suede pumps in the very same khaki-green shade to pull her look together.

Aside from the duchess’s elegant taste in clothing, she’s shown she has a good eye for the perfect hat since joining the royal fold! Her fascinator, which calls to mind a very similar saucer-style one by Philip Treacy she wore for Trooping the Colour, tipped artfully on the side of her head. Eagle-eyed royal watchers will know that this isn’t the first time Meghan has worn one of Stephen’s toppers. For her first outing with the Queen on Commonwealth Day, months before marrying Prince Harry, the 36-year-old wore a striking white beret, a subtle nod to a preferred hat style of the late Princess Diana .

The choice of colour certainly stood out from the rest of the Royal Family, who mostly opted for cream, like proud mom, Duchess Kate and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall , or pastel blue hues, as aunt Pippa Middleton and Louis’ big sister Princess Charlotte did. As with Charlotte and George’s christenings, Kate absolutely dazzled in cream Alexander McQueen. The luxury British designer has been one of Kate’s favourites for years, so it’s no surprise that she’d want creative director Sarah Burton to be a part of this event.
