‘Don’t just survive’: Chrissy Teigen opens up about managing her anxiety

Chrissy Teigen is beloved by her fans for her candid and frank comments on social media on everything from motherhood to dealing with online hatred and trolls. Now she’s opened up about her anxiety in a Twitter Q&A.

On Dec. 8, the supermodel took to Twitter for an unofficial "celebrity question asking time" with her 12.1 million followers. In her characteristic candid and funny style, the mother of two shared her insights on what it’s like being a celebrity and managing her mental health.

When one fan asked how she manages to “keep her sanity,” the cookbook author responded simply with, “my medicine.”

Another asked how Chrissy had changed in a positive way since becoming a celebrity.

“I dunno, honestly. I still see things from every perspective,” Chrissy responded. “But I’m also highly anxious and perceptive so it’s kind of hell for my own mind. But also good? I like that I can help people but my own self is kind of...stuck?”

Similarly, another fan asked what Chrissy give her past self. She opened up about always feeling nervous and how it’s important to live.

“I was always so nervous. I never knew what I was gonna do next,” she wrote. “I still don’t really know. But it’s okay. Don’t just survive. Live!”

The Lip Sync Battle co-host is recognized for helping to break the stigma around important issues, including mental health. In 2017, Chrissy opened up about experiencing postpartum depression after having her first child, Luna, in an open essay for Glamour. She bravely detailed plans to regularly see a therapist and talked about how she was taking antidepressants.

“Like anyone, with PPD or without, I have really good days and bad days,” she wrote after starting medication. “I will say, though, right now, all of the really bad days—the days that used to be all my days—are gone.”

She also credited her team around her, including supportive husband John Legend, for helping her during the difficult time.

Chrissy is one of many celebrities to speak out about mental health. On World Mental Health Day (Oct. 10), James Middletonpublicly thanked his dog on Instagram for her support. On the same day, Prince Harry and Ed Sheeran announced a mental health collaboration.
