After fighting a tough and difficult campaign, Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party emerged victorious in the 2019 federal election, hanging on to take enough seats to stay in power and win a minority government.
The Liberals were projected to take 157 seats in the House of Commons, which just shy of the 170 needed to secure a majority, according to CBC News. The Conservative Party led by Andrew Scheer proved tough competition for Justin, and will take 121 seats.
Jagmeet NDP, meanwhile, will likely hold the balance of power, taking 24 seats. The Bloc Quebecois garnered 32 seats, while the Green Party brings its House of Commons seat total to three, up from just one in 2015. Former Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould was re-elected, this time as an Independent MP, in Vancouver Grenville.
“You did it my friends. Congratulations,” Justin said in a victory speech that evening. “It has been the greatest honour to serve you for these past four years and tonight you’re sending us back to work for you. We take this responsibility seriously and we will work hard for you, for your families and for your future.”
Justin took to Instagram earlier in the day to post a sweet photo of him at the polls with his family.
“Hadrien helped me vote this morning,” he wrote. “For all our kids, make your voice heard and vote today!”
Ryan had been tweeting information about how to vote as soon as advance polls were set to open, trying to make it easy for his fans to do their civic duty.

I love B.C. I want my daughters to experience the same natural playground I grew up in. On Oct. 21, the candidate you vote for will SHAPE CLIMATE POLICY. I’m proud of the climate progress made the last 4 years. Click https://t.co/gJ8wvRwD2y for voting info. #Capilanopic.twitter.com/a3itOeIqQx

Thank you to everyone who came to our two shows here in Toronto the last few nights. It’s been a special couple days and we want to just say how proud we are to be from Canada, to have the career we do, and to be welcomed, supported and loved by so many of you. Sharing our memoir and new LP has been a joy. Honestly, we couldn’t be happier about the response. At the heart of everything we do/make/release into the world is a desire to make the world better, contribute something special, and make our friends, family, each other and Canada proud. The music scene here in Canada has an abundance of talent and heart and we’re honored to be amongst so many wonderful humans in it. To be supported by the country, the tax payers, the industry…it’s just a gift and we are grateful for it everyday. ALSO! Thank you to Max from the @arkellsmusic for coming last night to the show (and snapping this photo!) and for putting my after show toque on blast.
