Halle Berry congratulates Halle Bailey on ‘The Little Mermaid’ casting after name mix-up

By Meaghan Wray

Fans were over the moon to find out casting news for the live-action version of The Little Mermaid, announced on July 3. But there was a little name mix-up – the world mistakenly thought Halle Berry would be the next Ariel!

Halle Bailey became the real upcoming mermaid. As you can see, there are just a few letters difference in her last name compared to Halle Berry. But of course, the big-screen veteran didn’t skip a beat, and made sure to send her congratulations to the 19-year-old singing sensation.

“In case you needed a reminder... Halles get it DONE,” X-Men star Halle Berry wrote on Twitter. “Congratulations @chloexhalle on this amazing opportunity, we can't wait to see what you do! #TheLittleMermaid #HalleBailey.”

Atlanta born Halle, who makes up one half of the R&B sister duo Chloe X Halle, played along with the name-game confusion, too. She sent her thanks to the Hollywood heavyweight.

“This means the world. Happy to share names with you,” she tweeted.

Clearly, talent runs in the Halle name!

The Little Mermaid isn’t the only Disney film to be receiving the live-action treatment this year! The iconic animated film Aladdin was just released this year, and stars Will Smith as the Genie (originally voiced by the late Robin Williams), alongside Canadian star Mena Massoud as Aladdin. The remake of TheLion King, starring Beyoncé as Nala, Donald Glover as Simba and Canadian funnyman Seth Rogen as the loveable Pumbaa, will be released July 19.
