Judi Dench, who is famous for taking on royal roles, but has announced she is giving up the throne! The esteemed actress appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show on Thursday (Sept 21), where she reminisced about her regal characters and some of her handsome co-stars.

Despite playing Queen Victoria twice in her 60-year career, Judi has confessed she no longer wants to play royalty, “I want to do something different. Anything. And I don’t want to play anyone like Queen Victoria in the next thing I do,” she shared. The leading lady has also played Queen Elizabeth in Shakespeare In Love, a role which won her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.

Dame Judi also admitted that royal costumes pose some challenges. “It tricky because it meant at lunch time it was just a question of sitting there and them feeding lunch to you with a spoon,” she told Ellen. The 82-year-old also shared that going to the washroom was a nearly impossible task!

With her long resume of Hollywood hits comes an equally long list of handsome co-stars. The Victoria and Abdul actress has spent decades practicing her trade alongside some of Hollywood’s most well-known actors, like Pierce Brosnan, Leonardo DiCaprio , Daniel Craig and most recently Bollywood star Ali Fazal. But who is the fairest of them all? “Johnny Depp,” said Judi, to which Ellen agreed.

Judi stars alongside Ali Fazal in Victoria and Abdul.

Now than Judi is moving on, Margot Robbie is next in line to reign as monarch. The blond bombshell is set to star as Queen Elizabeth I in the upcoming period drama Mary Queen of Scots. She sheds her normally sophisticated glamour to don a balding red wig and blotchy skin to bring the former monarch to life.

The 27-year-old actress was spotted on set this summer in London wearing a traditional Tudor dress and a protruding prosthetic nose; a shocking contrast to her normal attire. Actors David Tennant, Joe Alwyn and Saoirse Ronanwill act as her co-stars in the film, set to be released next year.
