In the style publication’s July issue, the actress revealed that she tried to talk her husband out of taking her last name following their nuptials in 2013. "I told him, 'If you use my name, you're going to be emasculated by your community of artists, by your Latin community of men, by the world.' Zoe goes on to say that Marco said that he just simply didn’t care about anyone’s opinion on the matter.

I felt proud that my husband decided to take my last name as his own ... and I his. I shared my hesitation with him when he told me about his decision […] he also asked me, “Why not? What are you so afraid of?" And it made me wonder... What am I so afraid of?” she shares.

"Since I've been with Marco, I've been lowering my guard. Finally when we had our boys I looked at my husband and I realized: I was meant for you and you were meant for me,” Zoe told InStyle.

The couple have said that they hope the news around their shared surname will inspire, “us all to look and see what is truly important,” and encourages people to, “start by letting go of some of the limitations we have inherited from the past, and forge a new path moving forward.”
