Oscars 2015: Our red-carpet fashion predictions

By Sarah Kelsey

If there's one thing we love about award nomination announcements, it's the guessing game we get to play around what some of our favourite A-listers will wear. Will each leading lady rock a look we're used to seeing or will she take a red-carpet risk? Oh, the fun!

Lucky for us, many of our favourite style stars were nominated for a 2015 Academy Award on Thursday (Jan. 15). And though we can’t predict exactly what they’ll wear, given the fact that many will be gifted a custom creation, we've gotten a taste of what their Oscar ensembles might be thanks to their red-carpet selections at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards.

Actress in a Leading Role mominee Marion Cotillard (for Two Days, One Night) is always a force on the red carpet, as are fellow contenders Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything), Julianne Moore (Still Alice), Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) and Reese Witherspoon (Wild). Julianne was a fixture on the Hello! team's Golden Globes style picks, and Felicity's prim with an edge aesthetic is also a favourite.

There are also a host of sartorial splendours to look forward to in the Actress in a Supporting Role category. Golden Globe winner Patricia Arquette (Boyhood) never plays it safe, nor does statuesque Laura Dern (Wild).Keira Knightley (The Imitation Game) has been doing maternity style in new and wonderful ways, while pantsuit-loving Emma Stone (Birdman) is a perennial must-see at any event. And look no further than our red-carpet gallery on Meryl Streep (Into the Woods) to know that the peerless actress knows how to stand out.

Of course, there’s also the small matter of budget: while we can’t afford to shop at the same spots many an A-lister does, we’ve used designer duds as the inspiration behind these budget-friendly finds. Who are you looking forward to seeing on the red carpet? Let us know on Facebook and Twitter.
