Shawn Mendes leads the pack of nominees for the 2018 MMVAs

Shawn Mendes is definitely one to watch at the 2018 iHeartRadio MMVAs, where the "In My Blood" singer has racked up eight nominations. Drake follows at a close second with seven nods, and Alessia Cara is listed in an impressive five categories, but which homegrown star reigns supreme will be determined on Aug. 26 in Toronto (airing on MUCH and CTV).

It's been a huge year for Shawn, who hails from Pickering, Ont. At 19 years old, he has already performed for the Queen and a good chunk of the Royal Family, been listed on TIME's 100 most influential people of 2018 and released his third number-one album (not to mention a spot on HELLO! Canada's most beautiful list!). Among his eight nominations are nods for Video of the Year, Best Pop Artist and Artist of the Year, plus he'll take the stage at the show to perform.

Drake is among those listed in a new category awarding the Song of the Summer, up against Cardi B, The Carters, Marshmello and more. He'll also go up against Shawn in the awards show's top categories. Among others, performer Alessia Cara is vying for Pop Artist of the Year and Video of the Year, up against the likes of Childish Gambino, Ariana Grande and Halsey. Fans are invited to vote for a handful of new categories this year, for video, artist, single, new artist and more.

Rapper Awkwafina, who appears in two of the year's biggest films, Ocean's 8 and Crazy Rich Asians, promises ample fun and laughter as host of the block party. Scroll down to see all the nominees...
