On April 18, some of music's biggest names came together to raise money for coronavirus relief with the One World: Together At Home concert. It was a rare moment in music history, as we saw stars from Céline Dion to Lizzo belting out their own hits and many classics from their own homes.
Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon, the show brought in more than US$127.9 million for COVID-19 relief efforts. It was curated by Global Citizen and Lady Gaga, and was intended to show how the entertainment industry is rallying to support the world – and each other, since many stars have tested positive for the coronavirus – during this time.
Here are some of the incredible performances we were lucky enough to all be treated to on Saturday:
Michael Buble – "God Only Knows"
The Canadian star appeared dressed down in a black jacket and T-shirt in front of a simple black studio background as he sang this Beach Boys classic, bringing it his unique jazz feel. The performance was recorded during the pre-show from his home and you'll enjoy bringing it into your own.
Lizzo – "A Change is Gonna Come"
The GRAMMY winner did a very moving performance of this Sam Cooke classic. We knew from her epic ability to dance up a storm while playing the flute that the 31-year-old could do pretty much anything, and you'll be further convinced of that here. She had minimal accompaniment, and her vocals will totally blow you away. She's a true talent, and we hope she continues to have a long and fruitful career.
Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello – "What a Wonderful World"
The couple's rendition of this Louis Armstrong classic will bring you to tears. It featured Shawn opening by tickling the ivories and singing gently in a bricked studio space. Camila dueted with her boyfriend as candles flickered in the background. They then harmonized together in a way that will remind you of the good things in life. It's *still* a wonderful world.
Céline Dion, Andrea Bocelli, Lady Gaga, John Legend and Lang Lang – "The Prayer"
The show closed with this gorgeous version of Céline and Andrea's song that was originally recorded in the '90s. Lady Gaga and John added incredible vocals that matched Céline's iconic voice, while internationally-renowned concert pianist Lang Lang showed off his chops.
Taylor Swift – "Soon You'll Get Better"
The superstar performed a stripped down version of this track, sitting only with her piano in front of a wall that features some art of gorgeous waterlilies. She's never done the song live before and its chorus will definitely give you some hope that we can get through the coronavirus pandemic together – we have to.
John Legend and Sam Smith – "Stand By Me"
If you're looking for even more John, you'll love this version of the Ben E. King classic. John sings at the piano in his home. Sam joins him from the couch in what looks like the British star's own home. Their harmonies are gorgeous – and check out John's wall of awards beside him on the wall!
Jennifer Lopez – "People"
J.Lo sat in what looks like her backyard, surrounded by trees covered in white lights as she sang this stirring version of the Barbra Streisand classic from Funny Girl. And it's not just you – she was indeed wearing a sweatshirt that had Babs's face on it!
Elton John – "I'm Still Standing"
The legend performed his own classic track at his iconic piano, which he'd had brought outside! It was great to see him in such a lush, green space as he enthralled us with this iconic song. In the background, you'll notice a basketball net, so we hope his children are learning! When this is over, we'll all be standing even stronger.
Keith Urban (with special guest appearance by Nicole Kidman) – "Higher Love"
Keith started his cover of this Steve Winwood track completely solo in his studio before he was joined by... himself on electric guitar and then... himself on an acoustic! In an incredible editing feat, he managed to get three versions of himself into the clip before Nicole made a special appearance at the end. She rubbed second acoustic guitarist Keith's shoulders and gave him a kiss as he thanked health care workers worldwide who are fighting the coronavirus.
