The Duchess of Sussex certainly has no shortage of helping hands when it comes to the imminent arrival of her royal baby with Prince Harry. But the best help, of course, comes from her best friends and loved ones! Serena Williams recently revealed she may have already sent Meghan a baby gift – and it’s the most practical thing.
The mom-to-one – an adorable baby girl, Olympia, who she shares with husband and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian – knows the essentials are important. “I may have already sent Pampers across the pond,” she told Reuters on April 3.
Lucky Meghan! But like the rest of the duchess’s group of A-list friends, Serena knows Meghan is going to make the “best mom.” That’s something she told E! News the same day.
The tennis champ has been friends with Meghan for many years now. They first met in 2010 at a Super Bowl event called Celebrity Beach Bowl and have been inseparable ever since, even with the distance from across the pond. In 2017, Serena revealed Meghan came to her for some advice after she’d been officially linked to Prince Harry and a media frenzy ensued. “I told her, ‘You’ve got to be who you are, Meghan. You can’t hide,’” she said to Vanity Fair for their Meghan cover issue.
The 37-year-old’s royal life has been incredibly busy, but she’s still found time to support her friend. During the Women’s Singles Final at Wimbledon in 2018, the duchess joined sister-in-law Duchess Kate in the stands to cheer Serena on. This marked the first time the royal women stepped out together without their husbands.
The athlete showed her support for Meghan when Meghan’s recipe book, Together: Our Community Cookbook, was released to support families affected by the Grenfell Tower fire. “I could not be more excited about it and proud of you... It’s beautiful – diversity, inclusivity, coming together in grief and joy,” Serena tweeted. Meghan also wore one of Serena's designs – the Serena Boss Blazer from her own fashion line, S – during her royal tour Down Under with Prince Harry in 2018.
